On the first day of filming...

Yesterday evening I took the a camera home in order to begin filming some establishing shots for my short film.

However when I came to film, due to a camera failure, I was unable to record. I spent some time figuring out what went wrong, and they I tried again.
Unfortunately due to the time difference between the initial filming slot and the actual filming shot, the footage I captured is too dark for use on my short film.

I still believe that the camera angles are good, which is why I felt it would be a good idea to upload them to my blog.

I am confident that the next time I come to film I will be able to film very good quality shots which will be perfect for use on my short film.

Silence has fallen.

Over the holidays, as I stated in a previous blog post, I finished the script for my short film.

Once I had finished this, after a week or so had past, I realised just how difficult it would be to direct at least 5 people, learning their lines in a short time frame, then I took the decision to modify my short film.

The overall idea behind my short film is still the same - a power shortage - but the way the story will be told has changed drastically. I have moved from a VERY dialogue heavy script to a very dialogue light script.

At the current time, there is very little dialogue and the majority of the story will be told through cinematic shots of important items.

I feel that this will allow me to create a far more impressive short film, which will also be easier to film and edit.

Storyboarding and plans!

Today I begin the task of storyboarding, I wish to get this done as soon as possible, while also ensuring a high quality.

I am aiming to have finished planning the short film by the middle to end of January, and filming to be completed by the end of February, with the editing to take place until mid-March when I aim to have completed the main piece. I then aim to have completed the ancillary tasks well before the end of March so that I meet my deadline.

All of this will be a lot of work, but I am confident in my ability to complete all of my work to a high standard!

Short Film Industry - Festivals!

Adding on to a past post regarding the short film industry, today I will be following it up with information about Short Film Festivals, which are hosted all over the world all the time.

One of the UK's most well known short film festivals is the London Short Film Festival of LSFF, which takes place in January every year in London (Obviously). In 2014, it will take place between the Friday the 10th until Sunday the 19th of January. It allows anyone who is a UK-based filmmaker to showcase their work to a wide audience, and last year 85% of events/showings were sold out!

The Top 5 Short Film festivals to submit to, as determined by Raindance, are:

1. The Sundance Film Festival - USA
2. Cannes Film Festival - FRANCE (Short Films Under 15 Minutes)
3. Palm Springs International Festival of Short Films - USA
4.  Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival - FRANCE
5. Aspen Shortsfest - USA
