Evaluation

Over the last few weeks I've been working hard on the evaluation section for my A2 media course. I planned all of my evaluation pieces and today I put the finishing touches on the final video, which means that now my evaluation is ready to hand in!

Here is the my finished evaluation in Prezi form!

Radio Trailer!

For my A2 production I made a short, 30 second radio trailer as an ancillary task.
It uses some sounds used in the actual short film, as well as a voice over giving details of how to watch the short film and find out more information.

Editing

I have edited 'Blackout' on Adobe Premiere Pro CS6, and I wanted to share a screenshot of the finished product, which I believe is a very interesting short film about a nationwide, endless, power crisis!

I will post the actual short film in a few days, hope you enjoy!

Music

When I came to edit my film, I knew I wanted to use some moving music which would invoke a strong sense of worry and suspense into the audience.
I went through a number of music tracks, not to find a whole song which would fit, but to find portions of a number of songs which would suit one section of my short film.

I ended up choosing two songs which I found summed up the two distinct sections of my short film, the idyllic morning, and then the frantic and worrying evening.

The first audio clip I am using is from a song called Beyond the Stars. This is for the beginning of the film, which shows an ideal day. I also felt this song has a slight undertone of suspense which I felt fit my needs for the song.

The suspenseful song I used was called Rallying the Defense by Machinima Sound. I feel it fit the tone of the short film well.

Storyboards

For my short film I have created storyboards for the shots which I wish to include. This is a main part of the planning process and is something I have spent a lot of time on.

Locations

Over the past few days I have realised a number of elements of my production work that I have not uploaded to this blog.
They are:
Location Shots
Storyboards
Music Ideas

This week I hope to upload all different elements of these onto my blog.

Today I am uploading some location shots, where I have filmed for my short film.

Firstly is a house, this house is the setting for the majority of the 'morning' shots in my film.

The second location shot I have is of a road. This road is used for some establishing shots in my short film, mainly in the morning/evening sections.

The third location shot is of a road which I filmed at night time to simulate time passing very quickly. I filmed the shot over a period of about 10 minutes, which I will then speed up.

On the first day of filming...

Yesterday evening I took the a camera home in order to begin filming some establishing shots for my short film.

However when I came to film, due to a camera failure, I was unable to record. I spent some time figuring out what went wrong, and they I tried again.
Unfortunately due to the time difference between the initial filming slot and the actual filming shot, the footage I captured is too dark for use on my short film.

I still believe that the camera angles are good, which is why I felt it would be a good idea to upload them to my blog.

I am confident that the next time I come to film I will be able to film very good quality shots which will be perfect for use on my short film.

Silence has fallen.

Over the holidays, as I stated in a previous blog post, I finished the script for my short film.

Once I had finished this, after a week or so had past, I realised just how difficult it would be to direct at least 5 people, learning their lines in a short time frame, then I took the decision to modify my short film.

The overall idea behind my short film is still the same - a power shortage - but the way the story will be told has changed drastically. I have moved from a VERY dialogue heavy script to a very dialogue light script.

At the current time, there is very little dialogue and the majority of the story will be told through cinematic shots of important items.

I feel that this will allow me to create a far more impressive short film, which will also be easier to film and edit.

Storyboarding and plans!

Today I begin the task of storyboarding, I wish to get this done as soon as possible, while also ensuring a high quality.

I am aiming to have finished planning the short film by the middle to end of January, and filming to be completed by the end of February, with the editing to take place until mid-March when I aim to have completed the main piece. I then aim to have completed the ancillary tasks well before the end of March so that I meet my deadline.

All of this will be a lot of work, but I am confident in my ability to complete all of my work to a high standard!

Short Film Industry - Festivals!

Adding on to a past post regarding the short film industry, today I will be following it up with information about Short Film Festivals, which are hosted all over the world all the time.

One of the UK's most well known short film festivals is the London Short Film Festival of LSFF, which takes place in January every year in London (Obviously). In 2014, it will take place between the Friday the 10th until Sunday the 19th of January. It allows anyone who is a UK-based filmmaker to showcase their work to a wide audience, and last year 85% of events/showings were sold out!

The Top 5 Short Film festivals to submit to, as determined by Raindance, are:

1. The Sundance Film Festival - USA
2. Cannes Film Festival - FRANCE (Short Films Under 15 Minutes)
3. Palm Springs International Festival of Short Films - USA
4.  Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival - FRANCE
5. Aspen Shortsfest - USA
